About our services

Services provided by Communities of Respect include community forums opening up conversations about Elder Abuse and consultation with organisations and services about Age Friendly initiatives. More information about these services is provided below and please contact us if you would like more information or to discuss a different service.

Lets talk about respect - community forums

Forums for community members and groups focus on opening up conversations about Elder Abuse and about services that are available. In the experience of facilitator Maria Berry, these workshops open up conversations that empower community members to address and prevent Elder Abuse. The aims of the forums are to:
  • Open up conversations with families, organisations, groups and the community more broadly about the experience of Elder Abuse
  • Facilitate the sharing of stories in ways that empower families to take action and connect with local services
  • Listen in ways that challenge the stigma, shame and silence around Elder Abuse in families
  • Build stronger, more respectful communities.

These two hour workshop also bring
together local groups, service providers and organisations in community forums where family members are supported to share stories and concerns about Elder Abuse and to become more aware of the local supports services they can access. The forums begin with an overview of the evidence related to Elder Abuse and then sharing stories about local people who have experienced abuse.

Age friendly rural communities - consultations

Consultations with organisations to plan age friendly initiatives that bring the whole community together to focus on healthy ageing. Consultation with key stakeholders to:
  1. Bring together local expertise to work collaboratively on planning age friendly initiatives
  2. Identify new ways of working that engage the community
  3. Raise awareness of the power of everyone taking responsibility for cultural change.

Consultations range from two hours to half day or can include one hour presentations. Content focuses on how communities can better work together to build Communities of Respect, understand and work with local strengths and call for all stakeholders and community members to lead change.
